My best wishes for a happy, healthy and delicious 2013 to you all, I hope you enjoyed the holidays and this post finds you all well.
I have an exciting Turkish cookery class coming up on February 9th, Saturday, from 10 am to 12 noon at Oatlands Village Hall, Weybridge, Surrey and I wanted to share the details with you. We will have exotic, refreshing flavors, such as the delicious fillo pastry rolls with cheese and parsley filling (Sigara Boregi); Ground Lamb & Beef Kebabs with pistachio in tomato and cherry sauce, over flat bread with roasted vegetables and many more. These are the dishes you can easily re-create in your home after the class to share with family and friends.
I am excited to make another version of the ground lamb & beef kebabs with pistachios, this time baked in the oven with tomato and cherry sauce. This delicious kebab is a Southern Turkey, Gaziantep Cuisine speciality, rooting back to Ottoman, Persian and Mediaval Arab Cookery, where they enjoyed cooking meat with fruits. The marriage of sweet & savoury cheeries with the meat is marvellous, look forward to sharing.
The classes have a very friendly, feel good atmosphere; previous participants expressed that they had a lot of fun at the class listening the stories from my homeland Turkey, the history, traditions, blended with delicious food. You will not only learn how to cook delicious, easy and healthy food, you will also get to enjoy the food there and take some home to share with others.
This class would also make a wonderful gift to someone, gift vouchers are available. Participation is limited; if you would like to join us, please kindly contact me for registration, thank you.

Hi Jazz, what a fabulous news!! so glad the simit recipe was great and you enjoyed it, can’t wait to have a look : ) x Ozlem
Would love to attend your classes – wish I lived in U.K. As you know, I am a great fan of Turkish cuisine and I keep many jars of general provisions (tomato paste, ajvar, smoked eggplant) on hand for quick meals. Happy New Year!
Thank you for stopping by Susan, happy new year to you too! So kind of you, I wished you were near too! I hope the blog inspires and helps with the recipes – great that you can have the pastes and smoked eggplants in hand, a huge help. Please let me know if I can be of anything, Ozlem
Happy New Year.
The colourful stems at Wisley are from shrubby dogwoods (cornus), although there might be a few willow stems in there as well. As well as the stems in your picture, there’s a very fine display of winter shrubs with coloured stems beside the large pond at Wisley. The flowers certainly look like snowdrops to me. The weather has been so mild lately that there are hellebores flowering very early in our garden.
I wish I could be there for the class, but sadly duty calls.
Thank you so much Phil, another reader also kindly wrote to say the colorful stems at Wisley are dogwoods, such a fine display. Seeing snowdrops was such a surprise!
Happy New Year to you all, dear Ozlem, and Wisley gardens looks beautiful (sure that is snow coming in:)
I get so nostalgic when I read about upcoming cooking classes…how I wish to be closer to you at such times:) the fillo pastry with cheese are so delicious, so glad that’s on the menu! Good luck, I’ll be there in spirit, my friend. XxPeri.
Hellos and best wishes for 2013 to you too dear Peri; how I wished you would be near too!! You will be with us in spirits at the class : ) xx Ozlem
